Bio-art, as a branch of aesthetics, refers to the living art (or art created by living elements), and is a neologism that appeared at the beginning of the 21st century, which integrates a mega-diverse set of artistic activities related to transgenic art (that which refers to genetic engineering), biotechnological art, (which is defined through genetic manipulations of organisms, chromosomal manipulation, tissue culture and biological interventions), generalist bio-art (living art or art that uses living elements, ecological discourses and biotic recreations), robotic art (all aesthetic manifestations based on bionic dynamics) and the art of artificial life (computer simulations of life, simulation of physiological processes, digital art, expressions through algorithms, deep learning and artificial intelligence) and many others, and which ultimately serves as an artistic methodology for the study of the possibilities offered by the aforementioned technologies, as well as their ethical, economic and social implications.

In this sense, with “The Leafie Project” I allow myself to experiment with the development of a living aesthetic for popular consumption with the vision of improvement the daily life in the face of climate change, taking advantage of the versatility of the tools and processes that bio-art involves, creating artworks that are conceptual designs for the total reduction of harmful waste for the environment in the field of arts, such as the creation of biodegradable materials based on bacteria that replace vinyl fabrics, as well as paintings designed with yeast. On the same creative line, I have determined to create bio-sculptures (for public display) without any polluting material and integrated with augmented reality technology with information of local biotic systems; likewise, I am in an initial stage in the process of ad libitum modification of hybrid plants through synthetic phosphorescence as a proposal for lighting decoration and design in smart homes. All of the above with the goal of being the first artist in Mexico who, by the beginning of 2024, will not produce any type of polluting waste in any of his creative processes.
